New U.S. Patent Recognizes Evolven as the First Vendor to Offer Value Configuration Analysis Approach that Goes Beyond User-Defined Policies

Evolven’s new approach to value configuration analysis will detect unknown-unknowns.

JERSEY CITY, NJ, MAY 20, 2020Evolven Software, provider of leading Change Analytics software for enterprise cloud, today announced it was granted a new patent from the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO). Evolven’s latest patent, USPTO Patent No. US20180239682A1, recognizes Evolven for its innovative system and method for automated detection of anomalies in the values of configuration item parameters.

Evolven’s latest patent further reaffirms the unique and innovative nature of Evolven’s Change Analytics technology, which enables IT professionals to track actual changes in on-premises and cloud IT environments.

Evolven recognized two issues with the industry’s existing approach that uses policies to evaluate configuration parameters, and require users to manually define policies over configurations. The first issue, that this approach requires someone to manually specify and maintain a database of policy rules, and secondly, that by definition, this approach is only able to detect conformance with known states or a deviation from a known state.

Evolven’s patent, on the other hand, introduces an approach to detect “unknown-unknowns”, which covers the blind spot of the policy-based approach. Based on unsupervised machine learning, Evolven’s method does not require any user input. The system automatically builds patterns, compares configuration values to identified patterns and reports any deviations from the expected pattern.

With this new innovative approach, Evolven is the first vendor to offer a value configuration analysis approach that goes beyond user-defined policies.

“Today’s IT systems have evolved and become more complex to control and manage as enterprise companies use multiple servers and databases to service hundreds and thousands of computers connected to the network, “ said Boštjan Kaluža, Chief Data Scientist at Evolven. “Our new approach to value anomaly detection aims to help IT professionals avoid problems in their IT system updates and day-to-day operations, and reduce the mean time to resolution (MTTR) to prevent economic damage to the organization.”

About Evolven

While we all recognize that unknown changes are the root cause of most stability issues, IT nonetheless struggles to identify what has actually changed. Evolven allows enterprises to track all actual changes that have occurred in their environment, using machine learning to detect and prioritize the riskiest ones. With Evolven, IT Operations, DevOps, and ITSM teams experience fewer incidents, faster MTTR, and improved productivity.

Evolven is a recognized AIOps (Artificial Intelligence for IT Operations) leader and was named IDC Innovator of the year in 2017 and Gartner as a Cool Vendor in IT Operations. Evolven has also been included in Red Herring Top 100 North America.
